YOUNG ENOUGH TO BE HONEST.

I’ve been travelin’ in this land
I’ve been in this town
I’ve seen ev’ry man
Who was pretty much down.
I’ve been travelin’ through time
Seen almost anything.
People in their prime
Talk or even sing.

I’m young enough to be honest
I still can tell the truth
It wasn’t only in jest
What we said in our years of youth.

Yeah, it’s no sin
To be glad to be alive
‘Specially if you win
An’ surface for ev’ry dive.
Life is good, an’ yet
It may not be for all.
Do you wish to make a bet,
Or do you want to call?

I’m young enough to be honest
I still can tell the truth
It wasn’t only in jest
What we said in our years of youth.

A soldier’s daughter never cries
That’s what he’d say.
I never stopped asking why
An’ always without delay.
But there was no reply
So I couldn’t learn,
If people just were shy,
Or if it was none of their concern.

I’m young enough to be honest
I still can tell the truth
It wasn’t only in jest
What we said in our years of youth.

We all want something precious
Like the flower of a woman’s womb.
But we end up with somethin’ precarious
Like the flowers of a tomb.
Some people are going downhill
Some are gonna fall
It’s not a matter of free will
If you end up with your face against the wall.

I’m young enough to be honest
I still can tell the truth
It wasn’t only in jest
What we said in our years of youth.

There may be time to straighten things out
There may be time for change
Maybe that’s what it’s all about
An’ maybe it ain’t that strange.
But there’s a lot to be done
If you don’t want to miss
It’s too late when life’s gone
To give somebody a kiss.

I’m young enough to be honest
I still can tell the truth
It wasn’t only in jest
What we said in our years of youth.
